In Loving Memory of J.B.’s Annie
aka Annie - May 20, 1999 to June 25, 2024
J.B.'s Annie aka Annie was a dark bay thoroughbred mare by Roy out of Funny Star. She was born on May 20, 1999. She was New York bred and had 42 career starts with lifetime earnings of $144,548. Annie was a broodmare after her racing career and had 4 live foals. She was a sweet girl but tended to be a loner at times grazing by herself until she bonded with Cajun Cowboy. The R.A.C.E. Fund saved Annie from going to slaughter in December 2016 and she spent the last 8 years with us until her passing on June 25, 2024. We loved you Annie and will miss you and your infirmities of old age. She will forever be in our hearts. She will never be forgotten.
In Loving Memory of Smokey Mink aka Smokey - May 30, 1992 to April 4th, 2024
J.B.'s Smokey Mink was a gray thoroughbred gelding by Private Terms out of Mink Hat. He was born in Maryland and raced at MD tracks during his racing career. He had 26 starts with lifetime earnings of $15,770. We learned after we rescued him that he had been a fox hunter for several years after his racing career ended. We rescued Smokey in March of 2013 when he was 21 years old. He was emaciated and extremely sick and his left eye was severely ulcerated. He was so weak his back feet would drag when walking him out of his stall. He would not eat for days but he kept drinking water. We and the vet kept giving him one more day. Finally, he took a bite of alfalfa and slowly started to eat. The spring grass was coming up and we would hand graze him for short periods. Little by little he became stronger. Smokey was with us for 11 years until he passed away quietly in his run in shed on April 4th, 2024 at the age of 32. He was a warrior, he beat the odds and never gave up. He was special and we loved him and will always miss him.
In Loving Memory of Carr de Rage aka Carley -
May 26, 1991 to May 11th, 2023
J.B.'s Carr de Rage aka Carley was the grand dame of our sanctuary horses. She was born on May 26, 1991 in NY. We rescued Carley twice, once in 2011 from going to slaughter and again in 2016 due to a failed adoption. Carley's race record shows she had 11 starts and made $4,415. She was also a broodmare after racing and gave life to three foals. In 2011 she ended up at the New Holland Auction with her long time companion Missy Bates. We rescued both horses. Missy Bates sadly went blind and died in 2016. Carley was the sweetest and kindest mare. She loved our alpha horse Leon Royale and followed him everywhere as long as she could. Carley lived to be 32 years old. On May 11th, 2023 we laid her to rest due to arthritis and infirmities of old age. She will forever be in our hearts. She will never be forgotten.
