Statement of Purpose

The R.A.C.E Fund (Retirement Assistance and Care for Equines) has been established to benefit thoroughbred horses, racetrack pony horses, owners and trainers. The R.A.C.E Fund's purpose and intent is to be a retirement fund for Thoroughbred horses supported by the racing industry.

Currently, in the United States of America, a majority of horses from thoroughbred race tracks are sent to the slaughter plants when their racing days come to a close due to injury, age or non-performance. The R.A.C. E. Fund will help provide the financial means and educate others to reduce or eliminate the need for owners and trainers to send racehorses to slaughter when their racing careers have ended. The racing industry is a multi-billion dollar industry because of horses. They deserve a portion of the revenue for their well being.

It is the R.A.C.E Fund’s objective to collect from participating horsemen by the horseman's bookkeeper a percentage of the gross purse amount and any donations from other sources and place same in the R.A.C.E Fund. These fees will be tax deductible.

Monies collected will be used to pay a monthly fee towards the care of thoroughbred racehorses and racetrack pony horses that are donated to participating non-profit and qualified horse rescues until they can be adopted out to loving homes. Funds will also be used to help pay for the cost of euthanasia when necessary, emergency situations, educational programs and reasonable administrative costs. This fund will aid in helping many racehorses retire and will also help sustain horse rescue centers that can offer the horsemen assistance in placing their horses in safe and reliable organizations; and spare the horse the horrific experience of slaughter.

The value of the donated horse may be tax deductible in order to provide the owner a financial incentive to participate in this program. The R.A.C.E. Fund's intent is to provide a funding source to effectuate the saving of thoroughbred horses from slaughter and to provide revenue for their retirement. No racehorse can run forever. They need to retire too and deserve revenue from the racing industry to provide for their retirement by supporting this fund.

This plan provides relief for owners and trainers and the horses by providing the method of funding to improve the Thoroughbred Racing industry. The stigma of the current slaughter situation is a blight on a noble industry and noble steeds. They deserve better.
